Courses description

The materials for the courses have been prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the Minister of National Education of Iceland.

ICELANDIC LEVEL 1 (A1.1)

The level 1 course is designed for beginners, during which they will learn the Icelandic alphabet, pronunciation and basic vocabulary. Students practice speaking, understanding, reading and writing basic sentences using a variety of teaching methods. Basic grammar is presented in relation to the course material. Pronunciation is trained.

 

 

 

ICELANDIC LEVEL 2 (A1.2)

The course is a continuation of the first level. It is also suitable for people who have already mastered the basics of the Icelandic language. Vocabulary is increased to enable students to use simple sentences related to everyday life. Speaking, comprehension, reading and writing are practiced with an emphasis on everyday language using a variety of teaching methods. Grammar information is extended in relation to the material.

 

ICELANDIC LEVEL 3 (A2.1)

The course is a continuation of Icelandic level 2 and is also suitable for people who have mastered basic Icelandic skills at levels 1 and 2. Vocabulary related to everyday life and work is taught. An emphasis is placed on getting to know the Icelandic society. Students’ confidence in expressing themselves in Icelandic increases with continued training in speaking, understanding, reading and writing using a variety of teaching methods. Grammar information is extended in relation to the material.

ICELANDIC LEVEL 4 (A2.2)

The course is a continuation of the third level and is also suitable for people who have a good foundation in Icelandic. Vocabulary related to life in Iceland and is expanded. There is an increasing emphasis on independence in writing and speaking Icelandic. Grammar skills are improved on the basis of what has been learned so far.

 

 

 

 

 

ICELANDIC LEVEL 5 (B1.1)

The course is a continuation of the fourth level. This level is based on the needs of those who have a fairly good foundation in the language. We continue to focus on aspects related to everyday life and family needs. We strive to strengthen students language understanding in situations that may arise at work, school and everyday life. We emphasize the ability of participants to express their feelings and opinions, which aims to improve their language skills and increase self-confidence. As we develop spoken language, we develop reading and writing skills along with grammatical aspects.

Icelandic for school and preschool staff 1-2

The course aims to improve vocabulary in the school and preschool sector. It provides detailed coverage of practical basic vocabulary related to children, the environment, clothing, eating habits, and children’s well-being. Emphasis is placed on communication with children, parents, and colleagues in the workplace. The focus is on preparing participants for work and active participation in professional life, with Icelandic at the primary and preschool levels at the forefront. Diverse training in the main aspects of the language. Grammar is integrated in accordance with skill levels.

 

Icelandic for school and kindergarten employees, level 2-3 with elements of assertiveness

Continuation of the “Grunníslenska fyrir starfsmenn skóla og leikskóla level 1-2” course. The aim of the course is to improve and expand the vocabulary used at school and kindergarten. The course includes a detailed discussion of practical vocabulary related to everyday duties at work. Emphasis is placed on communicating with children, parents and colleagues in the workplace. An important aspect discussed in part of the course are the basics of assertiveness, the aim of which is to strengthen self-esteem, self-confidence and a positive approach to solving everyday communication problems. Grammar is integrated according to the students skill and knowledge level.

Spoken Icelandic „Spjöllum saman”

In this 20-hour course in spoken Icelandic we place our emphasis on training participants in dialogue and narration in different situations. Our methods include diverse study material like content from social media, music and more. Our goal is to help participants to use the language in different situations in their real-life setting.

Required proficiency for this course is the completion of Icelandic for foreigners level 1, 2 and 3 for the equivalent otherwise acquired. Emphasis is placed on narrative and conversation in different situations with focus on pronunciation, syntax and basic grammar. Students practice conversations about material of interest to them through diverse approaches guided by the teacher with the aid of different alternatives.

Preparation course for the Icelandic citizenship test

The main goal of the course is to help prepare participants for the Icelandic language test, which is part of the process of applying for Icelandic citizenship. We place the greatest emphasis on situations and phrases from everyday life, such as school, work etc. The course participant will acquire sufficient vocabulary to enable him to participate in simple discussions on everyday topics. Additionally, we will practice correct spelling, listening comprehension and grammar.

To participate in this course, you must have completed levels 1 and 2 of Icelandic or acquire comparable skills.
